About Us

John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy

John R. King integrates the fine and performing arts into a rigorous academic curriculum. With state-of-the art technology in all classrooms and a recent $10.2 million renovation, our school prepares students for life and the real world of work in the 21st Century.

The Academy was identified by the Skillman Foundation as a High Performing-Good Schools grant recipient in 2010. We were previously named a Skillman Good School in 2005 and again in 2006.

The school’s name was officially changed to John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy for the 2004-2005 school year to reflect our unique position of offering a full instrumental and vocal music program, as well as dance, drama and visual arts.

“We are on the Rise!…Watch Us Soar!”

John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy, in collaboration with the community, will successfully educate all students in a clean, safe, orderly, data-driven and student-centered learning environment. We will include the arts and technology in all classes to prepare students for higher education and the world of work.

We will accelerate student learning through the DPSCD Instructional Education Model which teaches students mastery. We will instill in our students self-direction, lifelong learning, and an awareness of the world community, and their responsibility to it.

The staff of John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy will work diligently to ensure that the students are the “Main focus.” Students’ success is now and will always be the number one priority at John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy.
